Chatham, MA- July 16, 2010- On Friday, August 20, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Hartford’s West End Brass Quintet will travel to The Monomoy Theatre to play “American Mosaics,” a program of All-American composers, both popular and obscure. Concert highlights will include Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story, Eric Ewazen’s Western Fanfare, Clint Needham’s Circus!, Michael Tilson Thomas’ Street Song, and a march by John Philip Sousa.
Hailed as “Five brilliant young players” by renowned composer William Bolcom, the West End Brass Quintet is one of New England’s most prominent emerging chamber ensembles. Formed in 2008, the quintet features trumpeters Joseph Hart and Joseph Sabia, hornist Theresa Rice, trombonist Matthew Russo, and tubist Katherine Bonner.
The West End Brass Quintet performs regularly in the many performance halls at The University of Hartford as well as performance venues around Connecticut, including the Charter Oak Cultural Center, The Old State House in downtown Hartford, and the Curtis Cultural Center in Meriden. As winners of the 2009-2010 Paranov Concerto Competition at the Hartt School, the WEBQ performed Eric Ewazen’s Shadowcatcher with the Hartt Wind Ensemble in February 2010. The West End Brass performed as featured artists at the 2010 Chicago Brass Festival, 2010 Hartford Jewish Film Festival, and the 2010 Hartford Women’s Composer Festival.
